3 Ways To Honor A Deceased Loved One.

Spring time is all about new life and a fresh perspective. But what if you have experienced the death of a loved one during this time of year? Grief can leave a dark cloud over the brightness of spring. But that dark cloud can be lifted when your keep their memory alive.

Here are three ways to honor a loved one after they have passed:

  • Make A Meal. Every year on their birthday, incorporate your loved one’s favorite foods into dinner. You can make one dish that they loved, or put together a picnic of several favorite foods. Did they love two different kinds of desserts? Definitely make both!
  • Play A Song. Their death anniversary may be a really difficult day. Make a playlist of some of their favorite songs, especially upbeat songs, and sing along! If you have young children in your family, invite them to have a “dance party” and enjoy bopping along with them. It will lift your heart on a sorrowful day and keep the memory of your loved one alive for generations to come.
  • Request A Mass. You can have a Mass offered for the repose of your loved one's soul as a way to honor them and lift them up in prayer. During Mass, the saints and angels join us in praise and worship of God our Father. What better way to stay connected to our loved ones than by worshipping our Lord and praying for them?

Every day, Capuchin Friars offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for individuals from around the world.

The Catholic Mass unites us all, no matter our location, to each other and to the sacrifice of Our Lord. Plus, this helps support Capuchin missionaries all around the world. Your Mass offering will go directly to assisting the ministry of the missionary priest who offers the Mass.

The sadness we feel when we lose a loved one may never fully leave us. Yet we can rejoice knowing that God hears our prayers. Through these simple steps, the memory of your loved one will be preserved and you can give them a gift far better than any material possession.
