Since the 7th century, during the time of Pope St. Gregory the Great, Catholics have been offering the Gregorian Mass series for those who have passed away in hopes that it will help them get to heaven sooner. The custom began with a monk who obtained release from Purgatory after thirty Masses were offered on his behalf. Because of this, the Church has declared confidence in the efficacy of Gregorian Masses to be pious and reasonable.
Because of the amount of time required for a series of Gregorian Masses, most parishes do not offer it. However, you can easily make arrangements for these Masses to be offered on behalf of your deceased friends or family members by visiting myMassRequest.org.
Masses are offered by Capuchin missionaries around the world, who are dedicated to helping those in need. Your Mass offering will go directly to assisting the ministry of the missionary priest who offers the Mass.
