Never Throw Away A Rosary! Here’s What To Do Instead | Rosary Evangelization Apostolate

What To Do With An Old Or Broken Rosary

When a rosary has been blessed by a bishop, priest, or deacon, it becomes a sacramental, and therefore should be treated with reverence and great care. If you’re not sure if your rosary has been blessed, it would be best to follow these suggestions anyway. Even rosaries that are not blessed are objects of spiritual significance to the Church.

So, what can you do with an old or broken rosary? Here are 5 suggestions:

  • Take it to your local Catholic bookstore or do an internet search for ministries that repair rosaries.
  • Bring it to a Catholic Church. They’ll know what to do!
  • Bury it.
  • Burn it, and then bury the ashes.
  • If the rosary is meaningful to you and beyond repair, purchase a box to keep it in so that it may continue to be cherished.

It is never acceptable to simply toss a rosary into the trash. The garbage is no place for a sacred object! If you are able to repair the rosary, consider using it. St. Francis de Sales said that, “The greatest method of praying is to pray the Rosary.”

This April, the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate will release “Power In My Hands,” a film that will show the miraculous events that occur when the rosary is prayed. “Power In My Hands” will share the exciting true stories of people across America whose lives have been changed because of their devotion to Our Mother and to the Holy Rosary.

In anticipation of the film, the staff behind Power In My Hands wants to offer a free Mysteries of the Rosary Guide. Download this informative and helpful guide today to spiritually enrich your devotions to the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ.
