In 1997, Sr. Mother Assumpta Long, Sr. Joseph Andrew Bogdanowicz, Sr. Mary Samuel Handwerker, and Sr. John Dominic Rasmussen felt a prompting from the Holy Spirit. The Sisters grew in devotion to the Holy Eucharist and Our Blessed Mother, and eventually they knew that God was asking them to found the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of Eucharist in Ann Arbor, MI.
In just twenty years, these four dynamic Sisters have grown to become an order with over 130 consecrated women who “seek to imitate Mary’s receptivity to the love and will of God in their lives by offering their own unique ‘Fiat’ or ‘Yes’ to the Lord.” Because of their unique devotion and charisms, they’ve been featured on Oprah, NPR and many secular national news stations. They have also recorded and produced an album that found its way to the top of the music charts.
What’s their secret? True devotion to the Holy Eucharist and a life modeled after Mary, Our Mother.
These women of God have truly lived up to their mission to “accept the demands of our culture and society today, giving ‘new’ voice and flesh to the Gospel, which we carry to all those we meet” and in doing so continue to attract many to be a part of their vibrant, authentic community.
In her newest endeavor, Sr. Mary Samuel Handwerker is working to spread devotion to the Holy Rosary in the feature-length film “Power In My Hands.” The film shares the stories of ordinary families and individuals from across America who present the beauty, power, and timelessness of the rosary through their personal witness. Sr. Mary shares her passion and love for the rosary, as well as her theological insight, as a cast member of this film.
The producers of “Power In My Hands” would like to offer you a free Mysteries of the Rosary Guide. Use this guide to pray the rosary and ask God to give you the strength to say “Yes” to God just as the Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of Eucharist have done. Watch the trailer here.
